「How are you?」「I'm fine.」

Doris Kwok

Khrissy Tam

We have been working like crazy to build global support for imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi as she prepares to spend yet another birthday as a prisoner of Burma's military junta.

To support our efforts, will you make a special contribution of $64, $640, or $6,400 to the U.S. Campaign for Burma?

We are requesting this amount because on June 19th, Aung San Suu Kyi will turn 64 years old. This will be her 13th birthday spent as the world's only imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

Can you kick in an extra $64 today in honor of Aung San Suu Kyi? This is one of only two times per year when we appeal to you for donations to support our work.

This year, over 550 people in 46 countries around the world have signed up to host "house arrest" events in their homes in solidarity with Aung San Suu Kyi as part of our 2009 Arrest Yourself campaignNow, we are asking everyone who has not planned an event to make a donation today.

Aung San Suu Kyi has dedicated her life to the non-violent movement for freedom and democracy for all of Burma's 55 million people.  We believe that she deserves to be free, to help lead her country into a new era of peace, security and human rights.  We will use your contributions to pressure governments and the United Nations to take stronger, more effective action in support of Aung San Suu Kyi and to build a stronger global movement for Burma.

Thank you for standing up for human rights.  You can read below to learn about some of the things we have done for Aung San Suu Kyi as we campaign for human rights in Burma.

Sincerely,

Aung Din, Jeremy, Jennifer, Jacqui and Mike

==========================================================================
What We Have Done

1) When we started our campaign, not many people knew who Aung San Suu Kyi was.  Now, she is "on the map" more and more, due in part to our efforts to tell the world about her struggle.

2) We helped to organize a letter signed by 112 former Presidents and Prime Ministers from around the world, that was delivered to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, calling for Aung San Suu Kyi's release.

3) We successfully moved Burma onto the permanent agenda of the UN Security Council, where for the first time in history China called for Aung San Suu Kyi's release.

4) Thousands of our members pressed the U.S. Congress to award Aung San Suu Kyi the highest U.S. honor -- the Congressional Gold Medal.

5) We worked with 30 celebrities to record 30 short film spots about Aung San Suu Kyi and the struggle for human rights in Burma.

6) Our work has been named in over 10,000 news articles.  Whereas a few years ago, Aung San Suu Kyi was spoken about only by policymakers, she is now being discussed at the highest levels of the UN, Hollywood, the athletic world, and at dinner tables around the world.

To learn more about our work, including what we've done to advocate for other areas of Burma policy, you can see our accomplishments here.

The struggle for human rights in Burma is long and difficult.  Please honor the courage of Aung San Suu Kyi by donating $64, $640, or $6,400 today.

Phone Call for Human Rights
Contact Your Member of Congress to help Stop Attacks on Refugees by Burma's Military Regime.

Easy
instructions here.

Dears,

We need the help of all our supporters who live in the United States -- can you call your Congressional office?

Here's the situation: over the weekend, Burma's military regime began bombing (with shells/mortar rounds) villages of the ethnic Karen people in eastern Burma. Thousands of refugees are streaming out of the area, over the Moei river and into Thailand.

We received some photos of people fleeing and released them to the media. Indiscriminately targeting peoples' homes and lives is a crime against humanity and war crime, illegal under international law.

Over recent years, Burma's regime has decimated over 3,300 villages and forced at least 1.5 million people to flee their homes. Regime troops destroy food supplies, hospitals/clinics, schools, and even cooking pots.

Yet, the UN Security Council has not acted to stop these attacks, even though they investigated and took action in similar situations in Yugoslavia (former), Rwanda, and Darfur.

Right now, two leading members of Congress, Joe Crowley (D-NY) and Don Manzullo (R-IL), are organizing a letter to President Obama that urges him to take action to stop these attacks once and for all, and bring the perpetrators -- the Burmese regime -- to justice.

Can you help us by calling your your Congressional office in Washington, DC to ask if your Congressperson will sign the letter? All the instructions you need are right here.

Already, 40 members of Congress have signed this letter, but we need many more to make an impact.  Check to see if your member has already signed before calling.

If you have already called, please call again and follow-up until your Congressperson signs on. We know the Burmese regime pays a great deal of attention to the UN Security Council, because senior diplomats, who have met with regime leaders, have told us first-hand.

After you make your calls, please write to us, right away (at mikejen@uscampaignforburma.org) to let us know how your call went.  Also, if you want help identifying your member of Congress, feel free to write to us or check www.house.gov

Sincerely,

Mike Haack and Jeremy Woodrum

ps.  You don't have to be able to vote, to call your member of Congress.  If you live in your Congressperson's district, you are a constituent.  Your Congressperson represents you!

Dear Blood Donor,

On 14th June, the "World Blood Donor Day", most countries in the world will organize activities to recognize and appreciate blood donors for their selfless and generous donations. The theme of this year's World Blood Donor Day is "Voluntary Non-remunerated Blood Donation", which has been proven as the corner stone of blood safety.

The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS) will organize the annual Donor Award Ceremonies on this important day (14 June) and 21 June to publicly honor our blood donors who have achieved 25-times donations or its multiples cumulatively during the past year.

In addition, as a gesture of our appreciation to blood donors, the BTS shall present a limited edition, cute and useful "Q-Blood Donation Measuring Tape" to those who give blood between 13 and 24 June 2009, while stocks last.
On the occasion of the "World Blood Donor Day" and on behalf of patients who have been benefited by your blood donations, I like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you again for your regular donation which has brightened up many lives!
